Advocacy for Children

The Sheltering Arms Foundation believes strongly in the importance of advocacy for children in addition to our funding of direct service work.  By advocacy, we mean influencing public policy and larger systems affecting children and families and the non-profits that assist them.  Some of that work is done through grants to non-profits doing advocacy work.  It is also done through partnering with organizations both locally and nationally, working to educate Minnesota state legislators, and by providing training opportunities for our grantees and other non-profits so they can advocate for themselves.

The Sheltering Arms Foundation believes that as a grantmaker, children are the most important resources for the future. We know that no greater investment can be made in our children and that the entire community must be involved in nurturing and developing this resource.

Please help the most vulnerable children of Minnesota receive access to a wide array of choices for a happy and successful future.

What are the Issues?

Contact us and have Sheltering Arms come speak to your congregation, organization, book club, etc. and learn the issues affecting Minnesota’s children.

Ready for School!

The Sheltering Arms Foundation believes every child in Minnesota needs to be ready for kindergarten by 2020.  To help Minnesota achieve this important goal we have joined forces with other members of the philanthropic community who provide statewide leadership and critical funding for early childhood care as the School Readiness Funders Coalition.

Together, our long history of funding early childhood research, program development and grant making allows us to provide a clear point of view on early childhood education and provide guidance to the legislature for the best way to approach this important work.

Our recommendations are captured in our newly released report, The Agenda to Achieve Learning Readiness by 2020.  For more information on this important work, visit www.readyforschoolmn.com
