Focus Area: Youth Development
Grant Amount: $10,000
Located in south Minneapolis. Centro Guadalupano provides culturally competent programming in the Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis, including an after-school literacy program that serves Latino youth ages 5-15 from low-income families, all of whom are English language learners and attend nearby Anderson Elementary School.
Grant supports adding the Explore Minnesota Project, a series of bi-monthly family outdoor field trips to Fort Snelling working in partnership with the MN Dept. of Natural Resources. Centro will use existing DNR curriculum for the field trips, which it will translate into Spanish for its families. This new partnership will allow young people who have limited exposure to the outdoors to discover new passions, as well as develop a greater regard and understanding of their surrounding environment.
