Focus Area: Early Childhood
Grant Amount: $10,000
Based in St. Paul, serves the Twin Cities metro area. In 2015, HAP opened a Montessori school serving the Hmong community in east St. Paul. Named Hmoob Toj Siab Children’s House, the preschool was the nation’s first bilingual, bicultural Hmong-English Montessori school and has a four-star Parent Aware rating for its high-quality programming.
Grant supports adding a community garden at the school’s new location. HAP will engage children and families in programming around planning and creation of the garden for long-term use. HAP will reach out to local businesses at the new location to engage them in the project. Gardening is an important cultural activity within the Hmong community, and both parents and staff are working to make this new garden a center of its preschool programming.
