Lee Carlson Center for Mental Health & Well-Being

Focus Area: Early Childhood

Grant Amount: $15,000

Based in Fridley, serves Anoka County and surrounding communities. The Lee Carlson Center was founded in 1979 as a community mental health center serving youth and families in Anoka County with an early focus on school support groups for at-risk youth. It has expanded to provide services around domestic violence and early childhood work through a partnership with Head Start.

Grant supports providing mental health services at early childhood centers and preschools for 30 children ages 0-5 in the Spring Lake Park School District (serving Blaine, Fridley, and Spring Lake Park), most of whom are uninsured or underinsured. LCC has continued current programming with families during the Covid-19 crisis using tele-health techniques and enabling children to use their own toys at home as part of therapy. LCC is skilled in trauma training, which will be a major need for schools and preschools as families deal with Covid-19 trauma on top of other trauma in their lives.
