Lincoln Park Children & Families Collaborative

Focus Area: Early Childhood

Grant Amount: $15,000

Located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Duluth. The LPCFC was founded in 2011 to strengthen the community by connecting families who care about young children. It operates a variety of services including a Monday night family gathering, community gardens, supervised visitation, a Circles of Security program and as of January, an Ojibwe-culture-focused childcare center. LPCFC emphasizes Native culture in all of its offerings, appropriate to its neighborhood where one third of the residents have a connection to the nearby Fond du Lac reservation or other Native communities.

Grant supports the creation of a companion curriculum for LPCFC’s Emaanjiwaang, a social emotional curriculum for school-aged children based in Ojibwe culture. This curriculum will serve the developmental needs of younger children in its own childcare center and in other centers serving Native children. The program serves non-native children as well, and these families have been interested in learning about the culture and language of the original occupants of the land they live on.
