Northeast Youth and Family Services

Focus Area: Early Childhood

Grant Amount: $12,000

Based in Shoreview, serves northeastern metro area. NYFS is a nonprofit, community-based and trauma-informed mental health and community services organization serving the northeastern St. Paul suburbs since 1976. NYFS partners with 16 municipalities and 4 school districts to provide comprehensive and cost-effective support to clients at all ages and stages of life. Support from municipal partners and donations from community stakeholders allows NYFS to remove financial barriers and provide services to many who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford this help.

Grant supports building NYFS’s capacity to offer early childhood mental health services at their clinic sites. Early childhood mental health services at NYFS will be based on evidence-based practices – Circle of Security Parenting and Child/Parent Psychotherapy. These interventions, grounded in attachment theory, support the mental health of 0-5-year-olds and their caregivers. The program aims to address the urgent mental health needs of young children in Ramsey County, a region where services for this age group are scarce.
