Focus Area: Youth Development
Grant Amount: $10,000
Located in Minneapolisl. MOI is an arts-based youth program that provides free programming to under-resourced students, ages 6 to 18. Its services focus on one-to-one attention and strong writing skills through four programs: after-school homework help, in-school tutoring, creative writing workshops, and storytelling and bookmaking field trips.
Grant supports a summer program called Power, Pageantry and Playwriting (PPP) in the Phillips neighborhood. This is a collaborative effort for youth from Waite House, Little Earth, and the Collaborative Village Initiative. It will focus on creating a musical stilt-walking pageant to be presented at the end of the summer with artists from the Heart of the Beast theater. MOI will work with youth on the playwriting aspect of the program. Each program serves youth from a different cultural community in Phillips, and the performance brings them together across communities.
