Project for Pride in Living

Focus Area: Youth Development

Grant Amount: $15,000

Based in Minneapolis, serves inner-city neighborhoods of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and first-ring suburbs. PPL is a large social service agency committed to working with low-income people in 4 core areas: affordable housing, employment and job training services, family support services, and youth development and education.

Grant supports continuing the afterschool tutor and mentor program with additional art therapy offerings, deepening the academic and social emotional learning of children ages 5-12 who face multiple barriers to achieving key academic and developmental milestones. Grant will help increase the number of art therapy sessions offered at all 4 PPL afterschool program sites in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Art therapy has proven effective at helping children and families process trauma and build towards recovery, especially with the added trauma of the pandemic and George Floyd’s murder.
