Duluth Community School Collaborative

Focus Area: Youth Development

Grant Amount: $10,000

Located in Duluth. The Duluth Community School Collaborative (DCSC) provides a continuum of support from pre-K through high school to three schools in the low-income, ethnically diverse Hill community in Duluth. It is a regional leader in the movement to create full-service community schools supporting children and families holistically for life success.

Grant supports reviving DCSC’s summer and after-school programs that had to go mostly on pause over 2020 because of Covid-19. The new summer program will serve 30 children in grades 1-5 with both academic remediation and a summer theater program called Hillside Youth Theater. DCSC will hire 4 AmeriCorps staff and teachers from local schools to staff the program, and a local group of Black artists, called DanSan Creatives, will staff the theater program. DCSC will use a trauma-informed curriculum and restorative circles with youth and staff.
