Focus Area: Early Childhood
Grant Amount: $15,000
Located in Duluth. The YWCA of Duluth has been serving women and families in Duluth for the past 125 years. Its Spirit Valley building, which houses the Early Childhood Center and the Young Mom’s program, has been operating for 15 years with funding from Sheltering Arms for several of its programs. The YWCA has been a leader in Duluth in implementing Circles of Security aimed at addressing trauma in both families and staff.
Grant supports offering Circles of Security nights for program families in the Childcare Center in Spirit Valley. The program will serve the parents in the childcare program, the young moms housed in the Spirit Valley complex, and parents who have graduated from the housing program. Children will be cared for in the childcare center and a meal provided. The families served by this program are among the most vulnerable in Duluth and are in need of both healing from trauma and learning parenting skills they did not receive in their own upbringing.
